A family visa may allow an eligible person to join or remain with a spouse, partner, child, parent or qualifying relative in the UK. The correct application depends on the sponsor’s status, the family relationship and whether the applicant is applying from inside or outside the UK.
A family visa is different from applying as a dependant of someone who holds a temporary work or Student visa. Visitors and people with permission for six months or less will usually need to leave the UK to make a family visa application, subject to limited exceptions.

- Financial requirements, including the £29,000 partner-route threshold where applicable
- Adequate accommodation without prohibited overcrowding
